    If the "Thermometer" is the one that Age concern usually do (My mother had one once from a church meeting that Age Concern gave a talk at) it's a little piece of card with sensors on it that change colour as the room temperature rises/falls to tell you if you are in danger of hypothermia, so not much use to the general public, so that should stem the abuse of the offer:)

    For the elderly who live in St. Helens, the Age UK offer includes the booklet and thermometer, but it also includes

    Travel mug
    Thermal gloves
    Thermal socks
    Calendar with info, plus pictures of old St. Helens
    Sachet of Cup-A-Soup
    Torch with battery

    Community centres, libraries, and The Mansion House in Victoria Park are distributing them to older people. You have to fill in a form with your name, address and signature. My mum has her pack, which is different from last Year's pack, and she is very pleased with it.
