I'm busy ripping the last of my music collection into iTunes.
But why is it, that some cd's rip really fast and others crawl at a snails pace:(
I have tried other software such as WMP, media monkey and even winamp and they're all the same, really slow:(

You have got lots of hard disk space left for your music haven't you?
Apart from the obvious some CDs are longer than others, it could be that with older, scratched CDs the error correction in the rip program has to do more work.

Yep loads of space, if you're asking because of backing up that's taken care of:)
I had thought of it as being older cd's or scratched ones, but some of the newer ones are also slow and all my cd's are perfectly clear of scratches or dirt and grime. Unlike lots of my friends I look after my cd's. So I don't know:o0 -
some cd's music cd's are protected from being ripped. but not from being played.0

You need to get around the copyprotection...google is your friend0 -
Hmm copyprotection, yeah could be right I suppose never thought of that:)
The cd's I persisted with which were slow, all sound perfectly fine, just like the ones that ripped fast. Luckily:)0 -
The ones you want to rip must under the protection.
So you need some thing to slove this first.0 -

If the CD has the following symbol it should be OK to rip.

I just found this interesting webpage on identifying copy protected CDs.
If the CD has the following symbol it should be OK to rip.

Largely irrelevant: copy-protected CDs can be ripped, as can copy-protected DVDs, Blu-Rays....0 -
Was going to say copy protection then saw a lot of replies. Copy protection has always been an issue (to point as some CD's some years ago had protection stopping them from even playing on a computer).
With todays digital download society though will CD's be around in a few years?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
