I really shouldnt watch those beat the bugalar programmes cos I get so paranoid afterwards!. One of my houses weak pojnts is the up and over garage door. one not even very hard kick and you would be in. Once into the garage you can then take your leisure to gain entry to house! the programme i watched put in a garage defender. basically its bolted into the concrete and doesnt allow the garge door to be lifted(or kicked up) when locked. has anyone installed one? had any problems? been burgled whilst you have one? would love to hear.

Surely you have a fire door between the garage & the house? Put a five lever mortice lock and chubb (key) locks at the top and the bottom. Then you can lock the door from the house and block entry.
Don't know about the garage defender, but will have a Google

That won't help much as any burglar will be inside the garage hidden from view with all the time they want plus all the tools in the garage to get through the fire door. I believe it is better to keep them out at the perimeter.Debt_Free_Chick wrote:Surely you have a fire door between the garage & the house? The type of device you are talking about is fairly reputable (at least the better makes are IMHO) but for anything like this I always go to the Crime Prevention Officer at the local Police Station. He will not put anything in writing as to what is good or bad but is often willing to say what works and what is er "not so effective" IYSWIM.
Going back to garage doors, I would say get a steel one and put bolts on the inside, each side. Again the CPO will advise where and what is best for ypur type of door.
The worst garage doors you don't even need to kick. Obviously I not saying how on a public forum, but some you don't need to try too hard at all. PM me if you want to know about the advantages/disadvantages of the various materials used for garage doors.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

Thanks for the replies. I think it must be a fire door but its one that has the top bit with that mesh glass in. It has a chubb type lock in at the moment and I could put a bolt on there as well. One of the reasons i wanted the garage defender was that in case someone broke in from elsewhere they wouldnt be able to drive off with my husbands pride and joy- His motorbike- but of course they would have to find the keys first! And yes that was a similar thing to what I mean. My neighbourhood is so quiet during the day as everyones at work but I do alarm the house during the day and the garage door is on it but no one takes notice when an alarm goes off anyway! I am starting to become much more aware of things security wise and after watching those programmes no longer have all the keys hangin up where anyone can get them.0
