Going to Canada for a Year...

Hi Everybody,
I am planning on going to Canada for 12 months starting in October and we were hoping to go to Whistler, however I have big concerns as I hear its very expensive there and I rely on MSE so much to save me money in pretty much everything.
Just wondering if anybody has done this area before and can give any tips or any good advice about living out there and if anybody knows of anything similar to the MSE Website/forums?

Thanks

I know you have probably already considered this but I've travelled around Oz and NZ (6 months in total) and other places in Europe and abroad and I swear by Tripadvisor. The forums can be especially helpful on there with locals answering your questions so I'd certainly post this on there, but try and be more specific, so if it is cheap accommodation, cheap meals, etc.... People were really helpful with us and our many random questions before we went.
I shall come back to you after your travells as this is something I'm hoping to do in 2013 for 6-8 months :j0 -
I have just been living in Vancouver for 18 months. I never found or heard about a website as good as MSE. There are some comparison sites, but nothing similar to this.
Whistler in particular is expensive because it is a tourist resort. Often you will get accomodation with your employment, so you may find the only big expense is food. There is not much option in Whistler, though you will do a little better out of town (particularly if you have a car).
rachelandgromit is right, tripadvisor can be useful for travel related stuff. If you have more specific questions, ask away.0 -

Did you get a secured job offer in Canada to obtain the working visa? I'm desperate to work and live in Canada but have found the only way in is to get a job offer beforehand? Can you give me any help?
Sorry if this disturbs the thread, but I'm just interested. Feel free to PM.0 -
There is a work abroad program called

you have to be under 35 to be eligible, and from this year everyone between 18 - 35 is eligible for 2 one year working visas (subject to being accepted) It is actually called the International Experience Canada. heres the link for more info http://www.international.gc.ca/iyp-pij/intro_incoming-intro_entrant.aspx?lang=eng
I have also set up a blog which I am hoping to keep updated throughout my travels : http://pinkaholic88.blogspot.com/
When i have been looking at the regulations for immigrating to canada i found that if you have 12 months work experience in canada, i think you can apply to immigrate through another scheme. I am hoping that whilst im out there i will be able to speak to an immigration specialist and find out what else I can do to immigrate there. I must admit i read the embassy sites and they just seem to confuse me!0
