Long haul holiday ideas

It's our 30th wedding anniversary next year and we want to go somewhere just a bit exotic, Seychelles, Maldives etc. I have been looking for some ideas online and most of the holidays I come across seem to be a bit too posh. Dressing for dinner, cocktails etc. We want a relaxing holiday but quite low key where you can just do your own thing, wander in to dinner and relax and not feel like a fish out of water. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to go and whether to go with a company or book flight and hotel separately? Thanks

There are many places to look at Carribean/Mexico/Cuba/Mauritius
Its depends on what your budget is to what you could look at, there are some hotels that dont require you to dress up for dinner, sometimes they just mean that they dont want you sitting down for a meal in your swim shorts

Dominican (so cheap)
Feels like a maldives island0 -
We took the family to the Maldives a few years ago - this island was very laid back and we had a fabulous time
its great for couples, honeymooners and families
I would recommend one of the water bungalows as it will be more romantic - given the reason for travel!

It depends when you're looking at going.. but there are sometimes cheap flights to Mexico, Mauritius, Maldives, Malaysia, Dominican Republic. I've only been to the Dominican Republic so far - the Bahia Principe was out of our price range when we went, but that looks gorgeous. (A bit remote if you want to do tours on the mainland, but they do offer a free shuttle ferry.)0

Sri Lanka is pretty nice now that the war is over. There are many hotels right on the beach, the whole country is extremely friendly and laid back. The centre of the country (cultural triangle) has some wonderful places to visit and as long as you don't turn up for dinner in your bikini they don't mind what you wear! I went in February for £1200/2 weeks - peak season, all inclusive 4* hotel, which I didn't think was too bad.We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0

We've been to Chaaya Lagoon in the Maldives a couple of times and it's fabulous. Really laid back, just bare feet or flip flops, no dress code for dinner or anything. I believe it's actually closed for refurbishment at the moment, so should be even more fantastic when it reopens 1 September 2010.0
