Passport Time Scales

Hi guys, my first post for a while.

I was wondering if anyone could help me.

My partner is applying for a first time passport and we are looking to go away in around 4 weeks time.

Is there anyway i can make sure its here before then as there telling me its likely to be 4 - 6 weeks before she will get her passport :(

Turnaround for standard passports is about 2-3 weeks at the moment but it depends which office your application goes to but with first time it's going to difficult

Your partner will have to submit for an interview and the interview offices are fairly busy at the moment.

Why has she left it so late?!

To be honest its my fault for deciding to go away on holiday so soon.

The closest passport office to use i believe is peterborough.

Am i correct in saying as its a first time application there is no fast track option

    A quick Google found this:

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Passports/index.htm

It has all the information you need.

I think you may need to re-think going on holiday in 4 weeks time.
A first time passport takes longer than normal, and your partner may have to attend an interview.

If the Passport Office have told you a 6 week timeframe, why didn't you ask them if there is a 'fast-track' process you can use?

According to the website, there is an 'Urgent Application' process but you need to check with the Passport Office if your partner is eligible for this.

They will know better than random people on an internet forum.

    You're welcome, 17 Black.

You obviously don't like people pointing out that you can get more accurate information from an official website.

Or did you want people to say 'Oh, don't worry, your partner can get a passport in 10 minutes from Tesco'?
Even though that would be patently untrue.

you might get it quicker than 6 weeks, the pssport office is not so busy, I will give you an idea of how busy interview offices are tomorrow night - but if you send it in straight away - make sure you have your parents passport details in section 4, that you have a full birth certificate and a countersignature that fits the criteria, you then need 2 photos and the fee of £77.50 - good luck

i know this post is a month out of date but just to let you all know

our lass applied for her passport, it was sent on the friday, got a letter on the friday after that asking for her parents marriage certificate, sent that, it arrived on the saturday at their durham office

got another letter today asking her to call to book an interview, she called to book interview about an hour ago and they gave her an appointment for this saturday afternoon so all in all if she`d have sent her parents marriage certificate then from applying to interview would have taken arround a week as apposed to the 2 weeks it has taken

after she`s had the interview she`s been told that it could take upto 2weeks for the passport to arrive but if they`re not busey she should have it by the end of next week

    happy days :T

All well and good (for you) but I would not recommend anyone book a holiday before they have a first passport based on your (or indeed anyone else's) experience.

Forget 1st passport, I would not booked any holiday that wasn't months away unless I had a passport valid for the trip. Interviews are going to be extended to renewals and when that happens I can only guess how much longer the queues will get.
