Classic Car Insurance for 18 year old?

Options
Hi

I was just wondering if anyone knew if an 18 year old driver could get classic car insurance anywhere, im guessing not, i googled and found pretty much nothing!

Ive found my perfect car, a 1974 MGB GT in my local garage for a good price trouble is, every insurance quote i try and get for myself is around £2000, way too much considering thats very nearly the price of the car, i tried it also by adding my mum as the main driver and me as a named driver (as i have done with my current car insurance, i know i know, bad idea, theyl sus me out sooner or later) and it knocks about £1000 off...is it possible to get it even cheaper? If it comes to it, i'll just have to pay £1000...after all this really is my dream car and if i dont get one now (whilst i work full time & have no kids!) then i dont think i'll ever be able to get one!

Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated :D

Thanks

    Hi,

My mate got a few quotes when he was 18, but all the companies he tried said you need to be either 21 or 25 for classic car insurance or gave him really expensive quotes. I don't actually know of any that offer classic insurance at 18 - someone else might though.

You could try putting you as main driver and your mam as second driver. This usually works out cheaper than having just you as the main driver (with no other named drivers), although it won't be as cheap as putting your mam as main driver and you as second.

    Hope that helps a bit.

I don't think you'll be able to get insured on a classic policy, I've been trying for years with my Capri's and everytime they say you have to be 21 or 25.

    You could try lynbrook http://www.lynbrookins.co.uk/

They would insure me but I think they wanted to limit my mileage to 4k.

The other obvious choice is adrian flux, they like young drivers.

    Good Luck

Have you tried Lancaster Insurance through the Mg Owners club? http://www.lancaster-ins.co.uk/indexmg.html

They were much cheaper for me when I was 19 with my MG BGT.

Try your local insurance broker on the high street. They will find someone who can insure you. I work in insurance and know this is your only choice. All brokers however offer different policies and prices so shop around.

People i would try include Adrian Flux, HIC, Footman James and Firebond - all specialise in classic/modified/vintage/rare cars and should give you a decent price.

Alternatively does the owners club not have an approved insurer?
