I'm confused by robt7893's post - surely no company is going to switch you over without payment details ?? A few year ago this was happening but I thought the process had been cleaned up- also the previous company will phone/write/email with a message like"sorry you're leaving us"- I've had a stream of emails from Scot Power in the last few days asking me if I'm sure I want to leave after agreeing a switch.
Also ,as I have posted recently, many modern houses have meter boxes mounted externally so if having the meter numbers alone worked ,the scam could be carried out without even knocking.
