Notice sent by Millfield Business Services

Morning all,

My wife received a letter from a company called Millfield Business Services regarding an account that had been passed to them and was overdue by £60.

The letter said 'As the appointed representatives [of Ashburn Membership Finance Ltd] unless we receive the full payment of the arrears on your account within fourteen days of this notice we will start proceedings in BURTON UPON TRENT County Court without further notification. Proceedings will also be taken for the recovery of ALL COURT FEES and LEGAL COSTS incurred without further notice.'

There is no telephone number for the company and they don't appear on yell.com or company's house (unless I looked in the wrong place). Business address is Coalville, Leicestershire.

We sent a postdated cheque with a covering letter explaining that if they tried to cash in before 17th March the cheque would bounce as that is the date we get paid, yesterday my wife went to the bank and found that the cheque had been bounced and she has been charged £30 by Smile for the bouncing cheque.

Can anyone help ? We can't find a telephone number to play heck with Millfield Business Services.

Any advice appreciated as always,

Vinny

Edited update - did a search for them under their CCL number, brought up an address but still no telephone number available on either BT or Yell websites.

They're not coming up under companies house. They may be a new company. Have a look under the address on SAA.gov.uk and see what info you can get from a preoperty search.

You aren't actually supposed to send postdated cheques, so not sure you can give them too much grief about it. I'd try reclaiming any charges you've had (for the past 6 years) and possibly contact Ashburn Membership finance for info.

  • I have found out the directors name yvonne uttley and that she does not reside in coalville but halifax and i have written to the OFT regarding this matter as the letters sent do not keep in line with the oft guidelines number 664 i will keep you posted.
  • I too have received a letter from Millfield Business Services threating court action. I emailed them info@millfieldebt.co.uk as there was only a PO Box address and no contact number. I added a delivery receipt and read receipt to my mail. It was delivered but not read (yesterday 15/09) so have forwarded it again today. Delivery receipt has been sent to me but again no read receipt. How long do i leave it as I don't want to have court proceeds sent to me, as i have tried to contact them. Please Help!!!!

Send what you sent by email by recorded post, and then you will have plenty of proof that you tried to contact them.

They may well have read the emails, but have the sending of read receipts switched off. I do on my mail clients.

  • just wondering if any more information about millfield came to light i too have had a 'notice before court action' and was curious if they are legit.thanks
  • Hi i have been doing some digging into Millfield Business Services for a friend of mine. Their registered address is 81 London Road, Coalville, Leicestershire LE67 3JB they seem to share their offices with Ashburn financial services, they even share directors Ian Uttley and Yvonne Uttley.
It was Ashburn who i was originally trying to contact as that is who my friend thought her debt was with. They would not answer email, voicemail or letters. The only phone number we had was a voicemail and the address was a PO Box
I have since found a number which is 01530838838 they will not admit that Millfield are part of the same company, however when they both have the same address and directors i make the assumption that they are.
Also i have spoke to the Office of Fair Trading with regards the licensing of Millfield and was told that they are licensed until May 2012.

I really hope this helps you.

    Afternoon all,

I too am having a ongoing 'discussion' with Ashburn which has resulted in a letter stating my debt has been forwarded to their appointed debt collectors, Millfield Business Centre.
I have found several things on the web about Millfield, including the fact the are not a registered company. I also found their license lapsed in 20.03.2009 although previous posts suggest this has changed.
Has anybody actually been contacted by Millfield, or in deed taken to court for a gym membership??
