12 year old daughter - birthday party?!!!!!

My 12 year old has been 'disc ussing' her birthday party. Approx. 7-8 friends to go bowling, then for a pizza, then a sleepover.
Bowling alone will cost a fortune, pizza hut (plus drinks, ice-creams etc. etc.) a second mortgate, sleepover (face packs, makeup testing, drinks, midnight snack sweets etc. etc.).
Don't want to disappoint her (my 14-year old son recently chose to live with his father - scared that daughter will go the same way!) but can't compete with 'dad' on financial matters (he is IT consultant on mega bucks per hour, his partner 'something big in the city).
Ideas welcome!!!

Hi lillibet..
How about keeping the bowling..
Then letting them come home and make their own pizzas..you could either make the dough in advance or buy bases (still cheaper)....
have tubs of toppings done the day before in the fridge (will save a lot of mess and knives flailing around) -they can all make their own fave that way..
then some cheaper big tubs of ice creams, jelly tots, smarties etc..or even blocks of choc grated up, bottles of sauce..so they can do their own "ice cream factory" ..you can always make it a bit more special by having pretty straws etc
hope that is some help..im stil thinking
Im back... can you borrow a DVD from a friend that they will all want to watch later on... with popcorn
Try and get hold of samples for them to test of face packs etc
when is the big day? so we have an idea of how long you have to get organised?-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Mrs. M - you are a star.
Birthday is 23rd Jan. I love the idea of making their own pizzas and the ice-cream factory will be a hoot.
Never thought of trial size cosmetics
Look forward to hearing further wisdom!!!:j[DFW Nerd club #1142 Proud to be dealing with my debt:TDMP start date April 2012. Amount £21862:eek:April 2013 = £20414:T April 2014 = £11000 :TApril 2015 = £9500 :T April 2016 = £7200:T

Hi what is your budget for the party?0
-
lillibet have a look in the grabbit now section as pizza hut are offering 50% off their pizzas, this can make a hell of a difference to the prices. its a printable voucher and you have to select the store.Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0

If you pay for the bowling could you ask her dad to contibute to her party by paying for the pizza hut trip? Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

I'd drop the bowling and make it an at-home-extravaganza. The girls can be invited to 'an afternoon of fun, an evening of pampering, plus a make-your-own food experience followed by a film night with snacks'.
I'd get the kids to arrive at about 3-4pm maybe and have a room decorated for them (living room or bedroom).
They can settle themselves in for 1/2 an hour while you get things ready.
Lots of music, makeup, hair straighteners/curlers, perfumes and 'cocktails' from 5pm or so would fill an hour or two of 'A Pampering Evening'. Make sure you have a digital camera or camcorder to hand.
Then you could make pizzas and the ice cream factory. Don't be afraid to limit the pizza either to cut costs. This will take care of the 'Followed by make-your-own Food'.
Let the girls go and 'hang out' with some music or games console games etc for a bit, then put on a DVD and have small bowls of snacks like pringles, dips, biscuits. Your guests can bring one 'snack' each. This encompasses 'A Film Night'. Or if you have a Wii, substitute 'Film night' for 'Games night'.
Then it should be bedtime!"...Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate,
but that we are powerful beyond measure".
