Cost of Standby Electricity.
Comments

Yes - that will be just over £1 at normal daytime rates.
In very round figures a standby consumption of 1 Watt will cost £1 a year if left on 24/7.0 -
So in this case my lower rate electricty rate is 1kWh costs 6.25p so 11kWh = 11kWh x 6.25p = 68.75p.
Is that correct???

My brother in law is obsessed with not leaving stuff in standby but thinks nothing of leaving the heating on all night in Winter ('to stop the pipes freezing' ). Yes, he's very strange
. My Philips 32" CRT TV uses precisely 0.34 watts in standby! Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Yes that is correct.
What is your appliance? A TV
It puts all the hysteria generated about 'the huge cost' of standby consumption into perspective.
It's a couple of computers. I bought a "Plug-in Electricity cost and Usage Calculator" from Maplins for £7.99 which is very handy. I checked my TV and ALL that's hooked up to it (DVD recorder, Freeview box/recorder, Satellite Box, Surround sound system "thingy") and all that came to about 60W-70W when all were on standby, so I suppose if you go around the house adding up everything that is left on standby then it can all add up. I now turn off overnight at the mains the TV/DVD stuff and the computers so that's about 100W.0 -

I was over my friends the other day and she mentioned about having her house insulated and that they can save about £250 of your fuel bill a year. To me this would be a massive saving. I thought well i bet its expensive and not worth it. Apparently if your on benefits like me, or over 70 not like me you can get a grant and its FREE, honestly i dont know why everyone isn't doing it. If you arent on benefits you still get a 50% grant! The company who did her insulation and are doing mine are called Adams Energy Assessors - www.spam spam spam Why is the goverment keeping this quiet this could really help us all out. So anyhoooos just a little tip that may save you some cash.
Love to help

That I totally agree with, however the hysteria generated about standby consumption in the media and on forums like this, makes many people believe that this is the major reason for their high consumption; and it ain't!!!
Look at how many posts from posters complaining about their high consumption emphasise that they don't leave the TV etc on standby.0
