Royal Navy Pension

Options
Good morning all, looking for some help on behalf of my Dad.

He joined the Navy Apr 1967 at the tender age of 15 and was medically discharged (crushed discs) Jan 1976. I think he's in receipt of what they call a war pension but he would like to know if he is entitled to the preserved naval pension??? He's aware that the first few years of his service won't count due to his age.

Many thanks

I believe the war pension replaces the normal pension. It is in effect that earned pension entitlement with an added compensation amount being paid immediately and inflation uprated instead of being preserved. Pension scheme details here https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/405070/MMP106_Web_Accessible_Version_pension_scheme_explained.pdf

Thanks Molerat. I'll get the old fella to contact them as I'm sure at his last reunion a couple of his old shipmates were also medically discharged and are in receipt of both pensions.
