Jing, how kind of you to read my ramblings and offer advice! All the fruit is eaten fresh, but I could swap some of the vegetables if I'm making a lasagne or a soup or something, you're right. I got a bag of frozen spinach at Ald! for 99c the other day, whereas a bunch of fresh spinach is $4. I'll play with that idea further, thanks so much!
Someone upthread asked about my spinach bowl recipe and I can't find the post now so sorry not to namecheck whoever it was! But here it is:
Saute onion, chopped-and-rinsed fresh spinach, a can of drained chickpeas, slivered almonds and dried cranberries until spinach and onion are cooked through. Add sumac, cumin, paprika and salt to taste.
In a separate pan, cook quinoa in quantities so that you end up with about one part quinoa to two parts vegetables.
Put in bowl (!). Add a soft-but-not-runny boiled egg, halved, and some sliced avocado on top.
Drizzle with lemon caper dressing, which is just olive oil, lemon juice and capers. Probably about 1.5 tablespoons per person, and make it very lemony and capery!MFW diary here. 1 Feb 2017 $229,371 - MFD Feb 2043  aiming for May 2028

Hi everyone, hope your month is going well. I had a £5.79 spend on milk, garlic granules, coffee and conditioner. I also got four 10p sliced loaves and two 10p bags of water cress. Signature updated.
Have a good rest of the week:)

Well a spend of nearly £20 last night (most of which were impulse spends). I don't think there was anything that I *really needed*.
I still haven't meal planned either.
I've made myself a nice lunch today so no temptation to change my mind.
I'm sure I've got enough in to see me to the weekend so hopefully I can stay out of the shops.0 -
Well, today would have been a NSD if only I hadn't woken up with a very sore throat. The only thing I find helps ease it is honey and I had none in the house so I made a small spend of £1.79 for a jar to make lots of honey and lemon drinks (luckily I have a few lemons in already).
I've thrown the batch of 'spend £70 and get £7 off' tokens that the supermarket sent me in the bin as they're one of the big triggers of my hoarding. I spend extra to get the saving and end up with millions of packets of pasta and tins of beans. I have foiled your evil plans Supermarket Man and will only buy what I actually need. Ha!

It has been a spendy start to March as I had DS1, DS2, DS2DGF and XOH for Sunday lunch. It was a proper roast with two chickens so the men could have a leg each (yes, I know). DS3 was at work so had his in the evening. Left over chicken for sandwiches and more meals this week. Pudding was HM - brownies and apple and mincemeat crumble with cream. I found the mincemeat at the back of the fridge, left over from Christmas. Making a roast seems special these days, although I used to do it routinely every Sunday.
I did the main shop in Lidl and then went to Sainsbury to get cocoa powder and pudding rice. (Cocoa for making brownies and rice for store cupboard)
This is probably the only time this month that I will see DS1 so it was well worth it and just means being extra thrifty for the next three weeks.Grocery challenge 2024: Annual budget £298.98/12000 -
No spends so far this month, but I have a voucher of £8 off a £40 spend at Tes**. I think it would be a shame not to use it so I'm going to look for fruit/veg and things on offer that will keep eg toilet rolls, coffee. I'll do an online shop so that I'm not tempted and can get the price as close to £40 as possible.0
