Hello, I am writing to you all as I have been unable to get the information anywhere else and I am worried the our council will try to side step our claim for exception due to severe mental impairment
Both MY Wife and MYself are on enhanced rate care PIP and just the two of us live in the house
Would we get 50% off or 100% off
Thank you all in advance

Why would they reject your claim ?
If you are both disregarded as SMI, you are the tenants/owners and then you are the only adults resident in the property then a Council Tax exemption will apply*.
*A 50% reduction can apply in cases of SMI but it's only in certain, very specific, situations and unusual to see.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Hello.
Thank you for answering me. I suppose we are always on the cautious side. For years I have trawled the council website as I always thought there should be some reduction.
So am I right in thinking that our days of paying council tax could be coming to an end. 100% reduction, as long as we continue to qualify. I am actually finding it hard to believe. Too good to be true. I suppose that is where the doubt creeps in.
Thank you again for replying to me0 -
You need to look at backdating as well but that can turn in to a technical argument in many cases if the council don't want to play ball.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. You would normally need your Doctor to sign and confirm using a special council tax (SMI) exemption form one each needed?
You should also get a full benefit check done ASAP as you could be missing out?0 -

You seem to have no problem in money management.
