There is a recent thread on this http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=3068696

I would phone around a few vets though, there can be quite a jump in prices between vets. I have never heard of it being covered by insurance, although I may be wrong.

definitely not covered by insurance and dependent on the size of the dog. Patterdales are tiny so should be pretty cheap (in comparison with a great dane).

You can get help from pdsa/rspca/dogs trust and probably others depending on circumstances. I wish they would do a neuter campaign in my area!
