Im thinking of loosening soil, rake , add topsoil, seed, sprinkle of topsoil and water.
Its a mess now so will this be enough?

Yes seed is easy, just keep it well watered. You don't see anything for about 2 weeks then suddenly - hey presto!Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

I suspect it's dead because of the shade and the dryness of the lawn at the edge of the stones. Try and keep it watered well, get a seed that's designed for shade. When you cut the grass don't strim these edges too short.0

Thank.
Its dead because i had a load of overgrown shrubs and conifers when we moved in. I have dug them all out. The border edge is new so need to tidy grass up now.
Thanks again0
