Best deal on contents insurance?

I'm a tenant in an unfurnished house with ALOT of stuff. I want to get contents insurance as at the last count our possessions came to £8K at a "new for old" rate. With having a young child and an IT Technician we really need some sort of insurance due to the computers that appear here to be fixed and doting grandparents/aunts

Is there any particular company that you can recommend? I haven't got an up-to-date figure on our possession but will be compiling a complete inventory before Xmas (part of my Xmas preparation which I do each year, plus it gives me a chance to de-clutter and then sell un-wanted/out-grown items on ebay for the money)

Also am I better going for "new-for-old" cover or the other one?

Please help as I really want to get this sorted!
