trying to find a decent kitchen bin turned out to be harder than expected, i'd had an expensive brabantia that the lid mechanism had broke on within 18 months & a cheap tesco job that had failed the same way.
thought i'd give simplehuman a try after using one whilst away on holiday & being very impressed with it (very sad i know! ).
ordered from Wilko for £35 but when it arrived the lid was slightly bent/warped so that it didn't sit flush to the bin, which meant it might leak smells into the kitchen.
i emailed simplehuman to ask if there was any way & getting the lid straight again. they asked for a photo of the problem & a copy of my receipt, then arranged to send a brand new bin out to me! i'd only wanted advice or perhaps a replacement lid (under their 5 year warranty).
well done simplehuman :T

I use an old pepsi box lined with a plastic carrier bag
I can't believe you spent £35 on a bin to stop smells... my bin never smells. If it does, I take it out of the house and lob it in the nearest supermarket bin

I love this
I can't stand bins in kitchens either. I use a carrier bag too, when it's full, it goes straight outside into the wheelie bin. I don't have bins anywhere else in the house either.
Those huge kitchen bins fill me with horror.0
