Pic 2 of 6 - who needs to waste money on a sofa? Have a feeling granny isn't going to be coming over to visit and watch TV anytime soon ...

I always look at photos like that and think "If they can - then obviously we can too" and want to know how people remain healthy enough throughout their lives to be able to sit on such low seating. There must be a lesson we can learn here - I presume...and I keep my floor cushions that I have (as well as my conventional western seating).0 -

....The difficulty lies in getting up again! :rotfl:
What's the test? Sit down cross-legged with arms folded and then rise again, maintaining the same posture? Something like that.
Last time I tried, I managed, but only with arms flailing at the end. I was a danger to the public.
Still, if you want to impress a 10 year old, stand on one leg with eyes closed for 30 seconds. Kids can't usually do that at all.0 -
Yep...guilty of using my arms to help me get up again.
So I've just sent off for the Green Goddess' latest fitness book (ie for those of more mature years) and telling myself "No excuse now matey....".0 -
I think most of us over pension age could sit on those, no problem.....

Up until about ten years ago I could manage the "stand up from the squat position on one leg only". Ie squat down, stick one leg out in front like a stagefright paralysed cossack dancer then, using the other leg only, go from squatting to standing. As I pushing 50, a little bit of weight gain and knees that are starting to show their age means those days are gone ...0 -
