Tado - Second Hand?

Hi,

I currently have a Tado thermostat installed, which I rent directly from Tado.

The ongoing yearly cost is high, and I am now in a position to buy the kit. Does anyone know if I do buy one second hand on eBay, if it will work? Or do I have to pay Tado a monthly fee or any other fee to use a second hand device?

I do wonder why Tado can't just sell me the kit that I have been renting from them, this would be the best solution (and hopefully lowest cost). It would save me the hassle of re-installing the hardware!

Tado° will sell you the equipment at RRP, less the cost of the previous six months' rental. You have to email them for a quote. In my case, it would be cheaper to return it and buy new from Amazon. I'm also considering buying second-hand; as far as I can see, there's nothing stopping you from doing so.

    BEWARE
I bought a kit on ebay and after 10 months it stopped working. The vendor sold me a Homeserve rented unit and then cancelled their agreement after the minimum term.

eBay and PayPal refused to help (out of time limit) so I am pursuing through my credit card company.
