B & Q Diamond Club

Options
B & Q do not offer exchanges to Diamond Club members they only offer refunds. My mum bought silk instead of matt and was told only a refund was allowed and she could purchase again next Wednesday to get the discount or buy today without the discount. There are also a lot of exclusions with Diamond as you are not allowed to purchase with any bedroom, bathroom, or kitchen purchases. I am led to understand it is not available against offers and if the price is classed as a trade price or multi-buy you are not allowed to use the membership for this either. On reflection I do not believe that this is a very good offer for the over 60's as other retailers can offer better prices and offers without all these small print exclusions.

The B&Q over 60's card has always had those exclusions, even before they relaunched it under a new name. I think you'll find that it's pretty common knowledge that big & costly items such as kitchens, bathrooms etc. are excluded items so don't qualify for a discount.

As with anything, you need to shop around to ensure you're gettting the best deal & always make sure you read & understand the conditions of any offer.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    I find them expensive anyway.

You can get big name paints, including Johnstone's from B&M Bargains at much lower prices and their plants are good value and often on special offer when they have new plant stock due.

My biggest problem with the diamond club is that as I work Wednesdays it means I have to go in the evenings and therefore my wife comes with me and spends way more on unplanned and impulse purchases that it makes any saving I make on my card is wiped out!

I don't really see why there's a supposed 'club' for older people anyway. As a group, older people tend to have at least as much spending power, and often more, than the young, first time buyers etc.

I have a local builders' merchant's account, so prices of materials in B&Q seem incredibly high. I went in for an odd bag of cement a few weeks ago and came out again pretty sharpish!

My store has a very limited range of paint, which has led me to find specialist company, Brewers. They are not only frequently cheaper, but they also carry all the superior trade ranges. Their own stuff, made by Crown, is good too.

I still buy most of my potting compost from B&Q, although I don't use it 'neat.' Like all the others, it needs beefing-up a bit to suit different situations. It used to be consistent, and if we go back far enough, it was delivered free if bought in quantity, but now it's rather variable. I can't say what's happened to other brands over the same period though, as all now contain a fair amount of peat substitute.

I think that it is due to Wednesdays being very quiet and to drum up some business

It's a marketing ploy. Wednesdays are quiet. Offer a discount to get customers in the door. In this case, a discount to a specific group who may have time on their hands.

Yes - of course, as with any offer, there are T&Cs which you need to read.

And the fact you have this discount card does not mean you shouldn't shop around as normal. If a product is 12% more expensive at B&Q than elsewhere, a 10% discount is not a reason to go there!

For most tools and paints etc, Screwfix (owned by...... B&Q) is much cheaper everyday.

I wonder if the Diamond Club discount varies from store to store? I used to live in the NW and always got the discount but a couple of years ago when I moved to the SW the discount wasn't available on the items I purchased (2 soft close toilet seats) I queried this and was told the discount only applied to some items in store.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

Screwfix is not owned by B&Q. Both companies share the same parent company, however, it's called Kingfisher.

Actually, the opposite is true. Wednesdays are second only to the weekend for sales at B&Q. I agree the Diamond Club is a (very successful) marketing ploy. The truth is that Wednesdays WERE quiet in the past.

    No.
The card has not until recently ever been available on Kitchen, Bedroom and Bathroom items.
The company are currently trialling giving discount on these items, but only "off the shelf".
