    • Name of present: Mystery Box
    • Bought or homemade? Bought/Homemade
    • Total Cost: Up to £5
    • Details (the more, the better): Get an old shoebox and decorate however you like into a mystery box. Then get loads of small gifts like sweets, stuff you've got from freebie websites, books, toys from the pound shop etc. Wrapping them all individually gives kids loads to open which they love and the mystery box element makes the small presents a lot more exciting than they really are.

Make some canetoppers for a keen gardener - get some ping pong balls from a pound shop (or tennis balls if you are going upmarket). Cut a slit in so that the ball can be fitted over a cane. Saves a poke in the eye methinks. Ping pong balls can be decorated with smiley faces, kids can help do this. Cost varies but starts at £1 up to a fiver. :D

Name of present: The 12 dates of Christmas
Whether it's bought or home-made: Homemade
Total cost: Around £4 and a lot of organisation!
Details: I'm making this for my Husband (our first married Christmas!)

Using bits and pieces around the house - an old shoebox, gift wrap, envelopes, glue, coloured card, and buying a few stickers from the pound shop

    1. Cover the box with gift wrap and make it look pretty

    2. Design 12 dates for the year - one for each month. My dates include a picnic in the park, late night at the Natural History Museum, a country walk, a bubble bath together, cooking a gourmet meal together etc.

    3. Each date gets put on a card - for example:
March - "Join me at the Natural History Museum for an adventure with the dinosaurs!" I'm making the cards out of cardboard and themed stickers from the pound shop.

    4. Each card goes into a sealed envelope (labelled for each month) which my Husband will open on the first of every month

    5. Envelopes go into the shoe box.

    6. We have a pre-planned date for every month of the year and will spend more quality time together!

Name of present: A-Z of us
    Both Homemade and Bought
    Cost £3.60 (or less)
Description - For a family member or close friend. Think of something for each letter of the alphabet which describes your relationship or something that you have done together/memory and try and find a photo or image that sums up this eg (A - Alcohol (maybe a drunk photo), B - Birthday, S - School, W - Wedding and so on (if you run out or struggle to find photos then generic images which sums up the word or a little message can be used instead). Once you have your 26 photos then get them printed (should be no more than 10p a photo) get a cheap photo album (£1 poundland for example) which you can then decorate with items most people already own (wrapping paper, pens, glitter etc) and put the photos inside with the word for each photo on or next to the photo.
This will make a very personal and heart felt present which is cheap to make but the thought and effort involved will mean more than an expensive present.

Name of present: Paint Sample Calendar
Bought or homemade: Homemade / Bought
Total cost: <£5 depending where you buy the frame - I suggest Poundland
Details (where it's from, how to make it etc):
      1. Purchase a picture frame - A4 size or larger depending on preference
      2. Make a background - Cover the cardboard insert with fabric using hot glue to secure it on the back, pulling tightly to keep the fabric smooth OR cover with a nice wrapping paper
      3. Trim up some DIY store paint samples into rectangles to make the date squares
      4. Stick the rectangles onto your background
      5. Print little rectangles to stick at the top with the days of the week
      6. Put the glass back on the frame and use a dry-wipe marker to add the dates and month to use all year round.

Name of present: Crazy Photo frame
      Both Homemade and Bought
Cost Varies but easily under £5
Description - We bought a pack or 4 wooden 6"x4" photo frames for £1 and let our 3 year old son stick pipe cleaners, coloured match sticks, bits of coloured card etc to it and put in a photo of him making it in the frame to give to his grandparents for Christmas. Not only did he enjoy doing it but his Nanny, Grandad and Grandma absolutely loved the present and they take pride of place in their homes. We spent less than £5 on all the bits to make all 3 frames and still had one left for him to make us one as well.
