Vax leaking, only just bought it

I bought a vax rapide v026 (graded) from Ebay. I had a quick go with it when it arrived, all seemed well. Just wanted to do the carpets down stairs and it is leaking, all of the time. As soon as i put the resevoir on the machine it leaks - so it is obviously a problem with the bit that regulates the water going through the machine.

I've emailed the seller but I'm so cross. Does anyone know if there is a quick fix? I'd love to be able to suck up the great big wet patch on my carpet - I've got a woollen carpet that now smells because it is soaked :mad:
