Roof Damage

Options
Hi,

I have just came back from visiting my elderly mother, and took the opportunity to go into the loft to dig out some of my old stuff.

Upon gaining access to the loft, it was instantly clear that the roof was not wind proof as there was a rather big gust of wind going all the way through the loft space. I also noticed a few bits of daylight coming through the roof.

Quite clearly she needs work done on the roof to remedy this, but there's no way she could afford to get the work done.

Is there any help available to her to get it fixed?

    I take it from your post she owns the property, I can only see 2 options if she is funding it herself;

    1) she borrows the money for the repairs (from family or bank).

    2) she saves up for the costs of the repairs.

    I would also suggest she calls a roofer to see the damage asap, as it may not be as bad as you think and she may be able to claim from a building insurance policy if she has one.

    The roofer will also be able to confirm what has caused the damage - obviously if caused by wear & tear she would need to fund the works herself as no insurance covers this.
