MSE News: Councils awarded £100m pothole fund

It's not nearly enough.
What will happen is instead of fixing a quarter of the potholes properly, councils will fix half of them badly. It looks better in the short term.
Money will also be wasted on the subcontracted repairers.
The solution is for central government to take back control of all roads and directly employ staff to maintain them.

Experience tells us that governments are full of "we are going to" but not so hot on the "we actually did"

As long as they use it to do a proper repair and not the "Patch" they seem to do round here. The patch seems tolast 5 minutes and its back on the list again.

And what about the damage to our vehicles? You try proving damage and claiming compensation from your local Council for premature failure to drop links, broken coil springs and having your tracking knocked out of alignment. I've had to replace the drop links twice on my own car and had to have the tracking done, all as a result of the barmy state of our roads.

The 'patching' the local Councils do simply does not work. Repairs tend to last only a few weeks or a couple of months at the best. The only way to deal with the problem, is to tear up a complete section of road and redo it properly just like they have to do on motorways, but of course there's no money to do it properly, so they bodge it every single time and in the end it costs more money than if the road was done properly in the first place. A never ending cycle of bodge it and scarper.
