It's not nearly enough.
What will happen is instead of fixing a quarter of the potholes properly, councils will fix half of them badly. It looks better in the short term.
Money will also be wasted on the subcontracted repairers.
The solution is for central government to take back control of all roads and directly employ staff to maintain them.

£1 million for the pot holes, £99 million for the pension fund.0

If it actually happens.
Experience tells us that governments are full of "we are going to" but not so hot on the "we actually did"0 -
Yet another government con.
A drop in the ocean compared with the billions they've stolen from local councils, and it will practically no difference to the appalling state of the roads because they're now in such a state that they need at least £15bn to put them back to the way they used to be before the barmy Tories took over and wrecked the country's infrastructure.
Just one of the reasons the UK has such a low productivity rate compared with the rest of Europe, and the rest of the world. We're just allowing the basic infrastructure to go down the pan.0 -
As long as they use it to do a proper repair and not the "Patch" they seem to do round here. The patch seems tolast 5 minutes and its back on the list again.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

If just half the revenue generated from vehicle excise duty/road tax, or as it was once referred to...road FUND licience, went towards our highways, things wouldn't be in the state they are.

VED is not road tax by another name.0 -

Unfortunately the government reckon a pot hole repair should cost £53 so a quick dollop of patch tarmac and a quick roll is all it is going to be.
Liverpool has been allocated enough money to repair 4300 potholes, there are more then that on Queens drive Liverpools ring road.
As you say false economy they need cutting back to solid edges, relaying and sealing correctly but at £53 per pot hole it ain't going to happen.

And what about the damage to our vehicles? You try proving damage and claiming compensation from your local Council for premature failure to drop links, broken coil springs and having your tracking knocked out of alignment. I've had to replace the drop links twice on my own car and had to have the tracking done, all as a result of the barmy state of our roads.
The 'patching' the local Councils do simply does not work. Repairs tend to last only a few weeks or a couple of months at the best. The only way to deal with the problem, is to tear up a complete section of road and redo it properly just like they have to do on motorways, but of course there's no money to do it properly, so they bodge it every single time and in the end it costs more money than if the road was done properly in the first place. A never ending cycle of bodge it and scarper.0 -

lol. Watch me do it for £53!
Health & Safety = 1 plastic traffic cone + 1 flashing amber light. I'm happy and it's done in 30 minutes (no tea breaks).
Council: farm it out to a company the employs 3+ guys with traffic lights, etc that also has to make profit for bosses and shareholders...
