"I couldn’t file my return on time as my wife has been seeing aliens and won’t let me in the house."

I thought we were all in favour of financial institutions having more consideration for those suffering mental health problems, but no - let's have a good laugh at them instead.

"I couldn’t file my return on time as I suffered a breakdown and was admitted to the mental health ward at my local hospital" :rotfl:

PS. If the aliens were paying the family I bet the taxman would want his share.

My OH's excuse is that she couldn't logon to the HMRC portal because the password never worked. Mind you, not having done an online assessment for 10 years may have had something to do with it - they didn't have an email address on record, so password updates had to be done via post.
She's filling a paper copy in as we speak (with expletives every 5mins).

Does she know the paper filing deadline was October?

She claims she's been given dispensation to do so; we'll see...

    Has she applied for one?

They usually come in a few days.

As post above too late for a paper return.

Maybe I'm too cynical, but I assumed the "these were actual excuses..." was a lie and they made them up just to make people think twice about lying.
