  • Hello diary!
I've been stressing a lot this week over surveys, solicitors and search results.
Last night DH bought home flooring catalogues from a mate (mates rates ) and I'm back to being super excited :j:j.
All is fine really, it's an old house so insurance and an emergency fund will be grand :)

  • Its too tempting isn't it?!
  • Its too tempting isn't it?!

It really is! We promised ourselves not to explore (walking) any more until we move. It seems driving around it and the local villages is allowed though :)

  • We did lots of drive-bys! We were shown round by the vendors not the EAs which I hated every other time it happened with other houses but they were nice and unsalesy and left us alone to explore. But they would definitely have recognised us going at 3mph staring in at them and commenting on the state of the roof.

And £40 from change vase is excellent!
    Mortgage £225k May 2017 - aim to pay off by Jan 2030 - MFW 2017 #118
    Outstanding mortgage: £81,987
    Cash reserve target £40 / £10k
    S&S ISA £1000/ £20k
    MF1 August 2016. approx (£152k start Jan 2009)
    MFW 2 TBD
  • Oops I've been absent as no money saving has been done.

Here is my short term monthly budget:
Food - £164.83/£300. £66.47 this week. This is more than half with 3 weeks left. Need to sort this.
    Petrol - £38.79/£125. Looking good.
    Cigs - £41.22/£65. Eek!
Fun me - £32.05/£100. £10 grandad gift. £10 Xmas saver.
    Fun DH - £12.05/£100. £0 This week.
    Driving lessons - £50/£225
Extra saved - £0. Need to do some ebaying.

I've never done this properly before. DH doesn't do receipts so now all the money is in 1 bank and I can just go on the bank account and work out where its all gone at the end of the week. It's working :T

Plan - Buy enough freezer food, snacks and lunches to last 3x weeks so we can stop using the convenience store other than for bread, milk and fruit. Have as many NSD as possible.

  • We received the survey this week. It has put a slight downer on the pretty decorating budget. The house is structurally sound and these things are to be expected with an early 1900s house which has been lived in by our vendors for nearly 60 years.

So here is the budget before survey:
    £150 - kitchen ceiling
    £1000 - roof tiling + chimney
    £1000 - flooring
    £400 - paint
    £100 - road mirrors
    £2000 - log burner + fireplace
    £1000 - garage longer
    £450 - lights
    £400 - wardrobes
    £1400 - misc
    £2000 - save

£9900 Total (This is the amount we expect to have available when we move)

But, after the survey the projected budget is as follows:
    £2000 - damp course
£3000 - septic tank + drains (worst case, so hopefully not!)
    £150 - kitchen ceiling
£1000 roof tiling + chimney flashing
    £1000 - flooring+rugs
    £200 - paint
£100 - mirrors road (dodgy turning)
    £2000 - log burner + fireplace
    £0 - garage longer
    £250 - lights
    £200 - wardrobes
    £0 - misc
    £0 - save
    = £9900

Some are these are worst case. We will do things in priority order and see what's left/not possible. They are all calculated guestimates but it will be good to look back at this. Misc is obviously going to need some ££ too. I really wanted to save at least £2000 EF and will hopefully do so if the big things cost less. I'm just not ready to take the log burner off the list yet.
