If a bodyshop conducts repairs and you are unhappy and give them a chance to improve the repair but your still not happy - can you get the vehicle repaired elsewhere and then claim the money back from original bodyshop

In principle yes. Under normal circumstances you are expected to give the original contractor one opportunity to correct their mistakes - which you have done.

However you will need some evidence that the work has not been done to an standard that would be acceptable to a reasonable customer and whoever re-does the work will need to charge a fair price.

So, if you went to an average firm the first time you can't now go to the country's leading specialist who would normally charge a premium price for ultra top end work.

    Thanks

I went to a prestige car repairer - one of the best in the midlands.

So I intend to get the repair done at another prestige car repairer. They have quoted 180. I have another quote of 60 - so there is a bit of a disparity there

Of course the original body shop say the work is now within manufacturers tolerance - even though their website says only perfect will do lol

The two estimates i have say:

"Investigate nsf washer jet not sitting correctly"

"Investigate poor fitting of nsf headlamp washer cover"

So I'm hoping that will suffice as sufficient enough reason to instigate further repair work

Which price is nearer top the amount you paid for the original repair?

May be worth getting a 3rd quote as there is such a big difference between the 2 so far. Then you'd have a better idea if one was under or over charging you.

If the repair is actually within the manufacturers tolerance, then have you got any guarantees that another repair somewhere else will produce a different result?

    Thanks mije

I've added some extra info at bottom of post #3 indicating what the estimates say is the problem

The original damage is a tricky one because the repair I'm unhappy with is a repair that was required after damage that occured in the bodyshop

When i collected car after first repair to a door sill there was white powder and scrathes to front bumper.
I now regard it as impact damage because 2 days after collecting it I had a leak that was caused by a ruptured headlight washer pump

They said a jet wash hose must have contacted the bumper or someone brushed past it in dirty overalls

They said they would fix those scratches but i discoved the other damage a few days later

They have repaired the scratches and replaced the pump but the cover is not flush with the bumper

Because they are disputing there was an impact at their body shop they have said all the work they have carried out was a good will gesture

Tney say they need it for 3.5 hours

Hire car for three and a half hours?

Go for a walk, have a coffee, come back and collect the car.

Maybe spend some of that 3½hrs trying to work out who to charge for the coffee if you like.

So I took my car to a second accident repair centre and they said there is 2k worth of damage behind the bumper

The original accident repair centre have dinged it and tried to cover it up by gluing things together

How that can still be a consumer issue rather than fraud beats me

I'd say it's because you cannot say when the damage occurred.

Four month old car you say? I bet you bought it like that.

The headlight washer was working when I bought it though
