I would like to see companies obliged to offer the option of joint accounts in more businesses .. it would making calls to customer service simpler, and simplify matters when one of us dies. I'm anticipating, as we have recently seen our parents go through this hassle - I'm planning to put the house in joint names for starters, which is allowed - utilities too if they'll let me - then bank accounts. But what about the companies that won't?
[For example I had a real problem with Vodafone last year when I bought my wife a new mobile: when I phoned them asking to get the number transferred (partly because Vodafone's internet software is so naff, and because reception is better here on EE, I wanted it on EE) Vodafone wouldn't even talk to me, citing Data Protection, even though my wife was fully in agreement. If I'd been able to put the account in both our names there wouldn't have been any problem. (Actually I suspect they could be misusing Data Protection, but even so.)]
