"Bank of Dad: Because apparently, I look like I'm made of money."

Well, this is a novel way to teach kids about financial responsibility...

A father from the US wrote this letter in response to his son asking for 'a loan' of $20. After finding he had a history of not doing his chores, his request was refused.

However, there's always the Bank of Mum to try next.

...because of course the Bank of Dad is nothing more than a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bank of Mum... ;)

Ha ha, yes, in some cases.

But here, sadly, Bank of Dad made a unilateral declaration of independence, and re-positioned himself offshore together with all assets.

Bank of Mum seeks a new merger... :rotfl:

Taught them both to handle money when they were young: you cannot start too early to teach them about the value of money! Each had jobs from an early age and they grew up knowing that everything has a price, although we also taught them to ask if they needed something and we would consider it. 9 out of 10 times, we considered it in their presence and gave them what they needed, what they wanted was treated differently. As an aside, we also taught them that we would standby them whatever they did, providing they did not lie to us. We brought them up to believe that lying to their parents was the ultimate sin. Amongst the trials of growing up, we stuck to that and they learned that we were always there for them.

The result is that they both have good jobs, many many friends and two lovely children of their own, who have been/are being taught the same values. It's hard work teaching all that to your children and sometimes it's 'tough love' but it is worth it, even when you get "I hate you! My friend XXXXXXX can do that/go there/have one of those!"

Teaching the value of money is good for you and good for them in the long run. You wind up with lovely, mannered, well-adjusted kids who make great adults. But nobody said it would be easy. Easy is the badly-mannered, stroppy, misbehaving kids you see every day.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
