Yet another call from an overseas call centre and yet again we have noticed a problem with your computer con. I just tell them we do not have one but they never give up.0

How do these companies get my mobile number? I never give my mobile number to anyone other than a few friends, relatives. Any company I deal with has my home number, and I don't answer any number I don't recognise. If it's important they'll leave a message, if they don't then it's not important and I don't want to speak to them anyway.0

I'd imagine, they use random number generators, that generate thousands of numbers a second, until it hits on one that rings.
A lot of people, think an operator is dialing the numbers, but it's a machine, which is why sometimes there is a second pause before a human says hello. The machine also 99.9% of the time, will know when an answer machine has answered.
Of course sometimes people also put their mobile numbers on forms on and off line and even if you tick do not use/pass the info on they do.0 -

I've had pay&go with 02 for over 10 years now - if they've been selling on my number (which I've never changed) I'm sure I would have received thousands of these calls. It's only been happening recently and only perhaps a couple of times a week, so I'm pretty sure that's not the answer.

It's stories like this that makes it feel all worthwhile to take the extra 5 minutes to report each spam call on the ICO's website.0

I was so pleased to read this as My Husband and I were bombarded with these calls about Hearing after my Husband had been for a hearing test. We thought it was the shop where he had the test or the Doctors that had leaked our details. Eventually, after checking with them both I reported it to the ICO as I do with most other nuisance calls I receive. Sadly, we still receive silent calls/Internat and made up telephone numbers but thanks to Caller ID on our phone can see who is calling and either answer or cancel them. I recommend everyone to report these calls. Another one that started recently was Policy Expert but a quick email to them telling them to stop or be reported to the ICO stopped them.:T0
