The DVLA site crashed this morning at 9am precisely. Not sure they can cope with the demand.

I'm sure they'll upgrade their systems at some point.

You can fly on an aircraft with a driving licence but you can not hire a car, what strange situations these civil servants put us in.

I always thought the points system was only operated in the UK.

If you are abroad and have a valid license do penalty points issued in the UK affect anything?

Does anybody still look at the International Driving License you get at the Post Office?

Could be a really simple substitute for this code business, if anybody accepts it.

I have an International Driving Permit issued by the AA. It was used to drive around Thailand. No mention of any points on that

I managed to get a code several times last night without issue. However the codes are largely pointless for car hire purposes as despite the car hire companies all tweeting about the new codes none of the branches will accept them - they all insist on physical production of license

I don't think there is an AA shop other than the online one any more.

The last International Driving License I had was issued by a Post Office. It does have AA stamps plastered all over it.

Everybody seem to ignore it, though.

Isn't an international driving permit only valid in conjunction with your national driving licence?

Abroad I only ever carried and produced my photo licence, never ever needed my counterpart.

    What a waste of time.
