'We challenged our car insurer mid-policy - it was £40/month, now £16'As Andy tweeted: "You gave us the confidence to challenge our insurance mid-policy. It was £40/month, now it's £16 – thanks. We didn't take no for an answer." – £288/year saved.
Andy may mistaken!
He claims by being bolshi mid-policy he got his insurer to reduce his premium by £24 a month.
Then claims his bolshi behaviour realised a saving of £288. So his maths are questionable (£288 = a full year of saving £24/month)
And insurers are just not going to reduce your premium mid term by 60%.
Did you check out Andy before publishing?0 -
i didnt even know you could reduce a policy mid termWhat goes around-comes around0

"We didn't take no for an answer."
Given that you can cancel your policy mid term for a fee, the insurance company wasn't going to say no anyway. Still, it makes a good headline.
Plus it would be interesting to know what the cancellation fee was and 'Andys' full calculations as, pointed out above, the maths dont add up.0 -

Cancelling mid term may also null any NCB you have collected for the year as it would not be a full years NCB.0 -

You can't, you pay a fee to cancel it (losing that years NCB) and take out a new policy. It's maybe worth the hassle for a huge reduction but it seems to be a bit of a stretch.0 -
thanks dont think i'll botherWhat goes around-comes around0

It'd only be worth if it your circumstances changes in a significant manner, or you'd always just auto-renewed your quotes. But it seems largely pointless as any money savvy customer will probably not be able to save more than the cancellation fee.0

Following this advice will send people scurrying to a price comparison site, such as money supermarket............... who is it that owns MSE again?
Obviously this wonderful advice is given purely for the benefit of the consumer........All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
I wonder if you lot above have actually read the article?
It's quite clear that they're talking about cancelling the policy part-way through a year. They also give an "order" of comparison engines with MSM listed third - then talk about the companies and products comparison engines don't list.
I think you're being a bit harsh, tbh.0 -
I wonder if the risk posed by the category he was in rose significantly or he declared a ticket part way in what he'd say if they challenged his policy price and didn't take no as an answer to an increase0
