Windscreen

Options
Hi
My multi car insurance is up for renewal. I have been with my provider for a good 4 years and have accumulated NCD for both the cars.
I had a Windscreen claim 2.5yrs back and paid excess for the replacement - usual stone chip on the windscreen.

Do I need to disclose that as a claim?
My earlier renewal premiums were not affected.

PS: both our cars do close to 18K miles

    Check your policy.

Windscreen claims do NOT usually need to be declared and will NOT affect your NCD.

    No.

Although it is unusual for window claims to affect your NCD (though it does with some insurers) it is usual for all claims (including windscreens) to have to be disclosed to insurers when asked about your claim/loss etc history.

(There are many threads/posts here from policyholders who have not declared windscreen claims only to have this come back and bite them when the insurer has discovered their "omission")

As above, they do need to be declared. Look at 95% of quote websites and one of the classes of claim will be Glass on the form to add claims.

A fair number of insurers wont load for glass claims, worst case is often just excluding glass cover if there have been excessive numbers of claims, but they do need to be declared.

I forgot to declare my windscreen claim last year but spotted my mistake before the policy incepted. They added it without any charges but it certainly did appear on the reissued documents so it wasnt just nodded through.
  • If in doubt, declare it. If the insurer doesn't see the claim as relevant to the premium they'll simply not apply a price loading.

Make that two windscreens now... Glad that the replacement was immediately after the renewal.
