Be aware you need to know what types of file it can play and you will need to go to another channel, my Samsung has one called USB. Press the button that you use to change from HDMI to other inputs.

Also your memory stick may not be compatible, we have this with our printer at work, some memory sticks work in it, others don't.

As for files, your TV manual (you can find it online if you don't have a physical copy) will usually tell you what file types it supports. My dad's TV can't play .mkv files

    Thanks a lot,
TV is Sony Bravia, a few years old now.
I will try the menu setting to Media player, if there is one, in a few minutes from now.
USB stick is Kingston 8gb. there are different files on it some VHS videos,
    digital converted.
I think usb was formatted when I put files on it from my pc.

Bravia is not a model number , look on the back of the TV, or read the printed "manual" it came with

Some older TVs only have USB sockets for firmware updates
