The new laws will also cover unsolicited marketing emails.

Nuisance calls? What nusiance calls? Mine all stopped when I joined BT for their broadband fibre and I just never bothered plugging a phone line into the master socket, only the internet is connected. I don't even know the phone number BT gave me unless I look at my online BT account.

Makes me laugh though, BT send me 'offers' of blocking unwanted calls and telephone numbers when they can clearly see I don't ever use the landline for phone calls. At least I can sit in front of the telly all evening without listening to a phone ringing several times knowing it's just some paid fool trying to sell me a chocolate fireguard or a computer virus that will send my hard earned cash to a bank account in a country I've never heard of.

Caddyman, that is BT's mode of operation.

Squeeze and charge you for everything they can whilst having their main service center in India.

So all that will happen is the bad call centers over here will close their UK based centers and move them aboard where the UK can't touch them.

    Wow!! A wonderful win, NOT.

Energy Saving Champion I've been Money Tipped!
If the scheme is as effective as the Telephone Preference one, then I doubt much will change.
I enrolled with the TP service but still get loads of sales/survey! calls.

My solution now is to let all the calls go to the answer machine.

Lol! Trust me, I know exactly how BT work having been a previous customer of theirs. The only reason I opted for their fibre broadband, is because they are the only real option available in my area for that particular service. I don't use their 'phone service because I don't need it and I certainly have no wish to speak to or listen to their call centres in India or anyone else making unsolicited calls from India, South Africa or Bangladesh.

I do of course have a mobile phone on pay as you go with Three and in the 5 months I've been using their service, I've had only two random calls. My work mobile though, well that is a different matter, but I routinely ignore 'blocked' calls or numbers I just don't recognise. Yes, I'm one of those people that doesn't have that burning desire to actually answer a call just in case it's important! My favourite is accepting recorded calls which turn out to be PPI calls. I never speak, just leave the phone on the desk, let the recorded message run to the end and let the nice people who push these calls out, pay for the call until it cuts off.
  • any company phoning me from a non UK centre and displaying there number , does not get my business ,

nothing will change , just one or 2 less PPI calls per week.

Most of the calls I get during the day don't have an identifier or are spoofed numbers - and want me to hand my PC control over to them !!:rotfl:
These scumbags aren't going to be affected in the slightest.
Someone needs to grab BT by the scruff of the neck to stop these calls at source.

I solved the problem - bought a call blocker phone and now don't get any of these calls, the phone doesn't ring unless it's an allowed number. Those not on the list have to announce themselves, the 'nuisance' callers don't bother, and in fact the number of rejected calls has fallen from3-4 a day to practically nil as these companies have worked out it's not worth ringing...... Result!
