Now awaiting the arrival of "Comparison Site" comparison sites!
  • It can't be far away as they already seem to exist with the hotel/ travel sector.

Do they? I would argue the ones I've seen are closer to insurance ones that include both direct insurers (ie airlines, hotel chains etc) and brokers (ie expedia, hotels.com etc)
  • I was thinking along the lines of hotelscombined.com as they appear to compare the comparison sites (hotels.com, expedia, lastminute.com etc) as well as hotel chains like holiday inn Marriot etc. But to be totally honest, I have never sat down and analysed it in detail.

Aren't lastminute.com and the likes essentially price comparison sites?

I haven't seen any "hotel comparison site" comparison sites - more sites that simply spawn off a bunch of windows that link you straight through to all the comparison sites (e.g. Trip Advisor). Do correct me if I'm wrong.

Insurance comparison is somewhat more complicated given all the details you have to enter. You'd need a true screen-scraping comparison site to achieve anything usable, and I wonder if comparison sites don't have anti-scraping clauses in their usage.

EDIT: Although the hotelscombined.com mentioned above would appear to be one I've not seen before! :)
