The article seems to imply you should check that the ATOL is legitimate after paying for your holiday and receiving an ATOL certificate, but really you should check the ATOL database before booking and paying. This is pretty obvious; the order of tips in the article is a bit odd.0

"Victims tend to say they've found unusually cheap travel packages via what looked like UK websites."

My sister-in-law found a website that I don't think is legitimate. I checked on ATOL using their certificate but it's not showing anything and I'm unsure if I'm doing it correctly.
Is this a legitimate website? http://www.ticketshouse.co.uk/0 -
It seems to be registered to a service address in AustraliaChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

If you click on the ATOL logo at the bottom of the home page it brings up this.

Atol 9165 is registered to The Original Travel House, trading name The Travel House, The Post House, Adelaide Street, Swansea. No mention of The Tickets House being associated with them.
The copy of their Atol linked on their website looks dodgy to me. The typing isn't straight and in one part you can see there's something else written underneath it. It's unusual for a company to link to a copy of their Atol. Clicking on the Atol logo would normally take you to the CAA website.
The link to their terms and conditions is broken. Not a website I'd be using!0 -
The domain was registered only a week ago

Have confirmed with ATOL that the number on their website does not belong to them and that there is no connection between tickets house and travel house. This company appears to be based in India with a "serviced office" in London to give them a UK address and phone number. Steer clear.0

BEWARE teletext holidays say they are ATOL registered yet their registration doesn't show up on the ATOL register0
