perhaps compensating long suffering customers would have been better , they should be giving to charities anyway

At the time of the investigation, which was carried out between September 2009 and December 2012 . . .
And here we are in 2014 before anything happens.

No wonder they are not compensating customers; they're probably nearly all dead by now.
Scottish Power customers who paid bills quarterly typically paid £180 more than if they paid by monthly direct debit, which was out of line with that of other suppliers. . . But Ofgem says it found no evidence that any Scottish Power customers were overcharged.
Just what does Ofgem regard as overcharging then?

Congratulations to Ofgem for a job which couldn't have been stretched out any longer. Just what they are so expert at. I won't mourn their passing if Labour wins the next general election.

Why no mention of the fact that those customers who paid their bills on time received a prompt payment discount of £150? This made Scottish Power's Standard tariff a far better deal than most of their competitors.

The only customers who lost out were those who did not pay their bills when they received them.

Yet another source spouting Ofgem cant without questioning it.

    Quoted From MSE Article:

''Scottish Power has agreed to pay £750,000 to charity as well as a £1 fine to Ofgem''.

Wow.... that £1 fine will really hurt them!!!

Are people suggesting the money should be paid to disadvantaged customers - that is, those who were paying by Direct Debit? They are the ones who lost out.

The summary by Ofgem is bonkers. £25 and £40 late payment and collectors call-out charges were standard then by all suppliers. Why the hate and discrimination against Scottish Power's sensible and just solution - a £37.50 discount if you pay your bill shortly after you receive your statement.

Scottish Power's policy made sure cash payers were treated fairly, more fairly than other suppliers. This is a blunder by Ofgem not Scottish Power.

It should go to the customers who were defrauded not a charity

    It's a Gary Barlow Special.

    Charitable donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE.

If they were going to give £1million pounds in 2014 to a selection of charities, they just have to re-partition it to a £250k slice, and a £750k slice. So the overall charity budget stays the same.

£ 3/4 million to SP is a totally forgettable amount to SP - with the £1 fine - why did they bother - and who paid Ofgems legal fees ?
I can tell you - we did - the British public through taxes ....
