I have about 4 Polish Food Shops within walking distance... I love to buy some of the food from time to time, especially love the pickled jars of sliced gherkins and vanilla wafer biscuits!
I also can find Yellow Label Lipton Tea Bags, which are not exactly Polish but remind me holidays in Europe as I drink that tea in my favourite country, plus I picked some up in Warsaw, so it was handy as now I can get them in the local Polish shops!0 -
If you're ever in a shop that sells Greek/Turkish foods, then I can highly recommend Biscrem (sp?) biscuits. They're like a little shortbready biscuit with a chocolate filling, and my OH loves them. I also like Cin (I think) biscuits, the orange flavour - they're a thick shortbready base with orange jelly and chocolate vermacelli. Shame they're so hard to findValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Great for sticking up on bulk supplies of bulgar wheat, though. Also the fresh pide bread is delish (albeit white).
Gosh I miss TFC! I used to live near a lovely one but I haven't been in one for years, not since I left London. Their bread is very good, and the baklava was always gorgeousGreat fresh veg too. I can definitely remember buying biscrem there, along with tubs of gorgeous yogurt and hummous, and really nice orzo. It was a great place to pick up fresh and frozen pastry too, like phyllo and kataifi. The prices were always really good too - I swear that I spent less on food and ate more healthily when I lived in London.

Hiya,
The jaffa cake are called delicje in polish. Also the sour cabbage i tend to chop up ad grated apple carrot, black pepper and drizzle with lemon juice. Goes great with fish and chips and loaded with vit c.:) I can confirm that winiary or kielecki mayo are good quality.
For the baby I buy corn starch sticks. (Most are called flipsy) Big packs for around pound so much cheaper than tiny packs from heinz etc inbaby isle. I get the flavourless but they sell chocolateor cheese flauvour as well.0 -
Oh and also proper polish sausage ( wiejska) slice into medalions, loads and loads of onion long strips and fry up. Towards end sprinke ( or not) with cheese, pop in a bun, ketchup and voila! Best thing everfor meat lovers!
In some tescos they have good selection of polish meat products, bacon, ham, sausage.0 -
I go to my local Polish shop for Lays salted crisps. Took me months to realise I was looking for the wrong colour pack
Supermarkets sell paprika flavour ones but I can't ever find the salted ones in them
The ktc tomatoes are good tooI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. I was in a queue of traffic in Wood Green (not my usual hunting ground) today when I noticed a TFC and a convenient free parking spot outside
I promised myself I wouldn't go mad, so resisted all the cheeses and desserts; instead bought a load of fruit, including a box of gorgeous fresh clementines, dried goods and tahini. Oh yes, and some fresh bread
Its only as I drove away I noticed a big sign in the window saying 25% off on Sundays. HTH someone.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Hi,
Kefir is similar to buttermilk
Paluszki - salted sticks, Lajkonik ones are very nice and good value for about £1 for big bags (in some Asdas, Tesco now have Beskidzkie which are not as nice)
Not in the Polish aisle but Danio Danone are very nice, thick strained yoghurt with fruits - made in Poland - usually on offer 2 for £1 or 3 for £2
Pasztet - pate, varied selection, can be with mushrooms, green peppercorns, peppers, tomatoes, all lovely
ghurkins - there are two versions, I prefer the one with dill and not so fond of the vinegar one
sour kraut - great for a salad with some carrot and apple or for hunter's stew (bigos) with some wild mushrooms, onion, sausage or meat
Delicje - similar to Jaffa cakes but in different flavours, cherry is particularly nice
chocolates - all lovely
Trufle - truffles
all big juice cartons are good value for money, we esp. like blackcurrant - so much better than Ribena
Prince Polo - very nice wafers in chocolate
Frugo - fruity drinks, lovely
bulka tarta - breadcrumbs, much better and good value
chrzan - horseradish
musztarda - mustard, different varieties
Kubus - different varieties, very good thick juice based on carrot juice, could be with banana, apple, raspberry, etc.
Lowicz syrup - different varieties of cordial, really nice
Papryka konserwowa - pickled red peppers
Cwikla - very nice mix of grated beetroot and horseradish, it can be quite mild, for a bigger kick mix with more horseradish, goes nicely with cold meats
Ptasie mleczko - lovely like marshmallows in chocolate
Krowka - fudge
Dzem - jam, really nice, esp. plum (purple lid)
miod - honey, very good
hope it helps
and smacznego (bon apetit!)0 -
