This is at best misleading for many.
For those on ESA, yes indeed the 'disability related' components - are rising by 2.7%.
This is a third of the total ESA payment for those in the main phase of the claim.
The total rise is 1.9% - below inflation - and this includes people who have been assessed as unable to work, or participate in any activity which will make them more likely to get into work.
Carers allowance is payable to those earning under 100 a week who are caring for someone over 35 hours a week.
This 100 pounds a week has not gone up, despite recent rises in the minimum wage meaning that someone in a 16 hour job will now not qualify. (by 96p)0 -
I assume this is because the CPI rate was 2.7% back in September.
So the Support Group component of ESA will increase by 2.7% whereas the rest of the ESA element (and the WRAG element) will rise by just 1%!
All DLA/PIP rates will increase by 2.7% then.0
