Thank you. I will check it out.:j
  • I work as an invigilator at several local secondary schools. No particular skill required - just the ability to stay alert for an hour or two at a time. Can be very boring, though. Contact the Exams Officer at the school.

I teach piano after work. I used to have several pupils, but it was getting a bit much for me to be doing it Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after full time work, so now I only teach two girls, sisters in their own home, for an hour every Wednesday after work. I get paid £15 for the hour. An extra £60 per month for me comes in really handy. I usually manage to always have some change in my wallet for nights out/calling to the shop etc without having to take cash out of the hole in the wall every time.

I throughly recommend anyone who can play a musical instrument to try it. Put an add on gumt*ee, keep your prices down, and you will get a plethora of responses. Currently the one evening is enough for me, but I know that if I ever wanted to get more pupils, the potential is there.

Delivering takeaways can be a nice earner + free food, I've worked at a couple of places that I can earn £30-£50 per night (6pm-10pm) and get a free meal at the end of the night. Yes you have to take fuel out of that, but if you have a small car its not too bad. At the moment I have an entire shelf of my freezer full of curries!
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Don't forget to factor in the extra cost on your insurance for business use.

You need to have at least a diploma in order to teach an instrument.

My son has a full, clean driving licence but doesn't own a car. He did the extra test one fast food outlet demanded so he can ride a motorcycle up to 125cc and then they offered him £4 an hour. He turned them down. He's applied to all the big fast food firms and not one even offered him an interview.

This may be the requirements of a formal setting like a school, but for home teaching, there are no requirements.
