Surely Swinton is due to fold sometime soon? It doesn't make sense for an insurance broker to have so many physical branches - should be online and call centre - they can't be making up the overheads of the shops from passing trade.

That's why I never deal with them - the only way they can be competitive is by giving you a whopping great discount in the form of a cashback cheque you will receive about 90 days after taking out a policy - never gonna happen if they go bust in the meantime...

A good number of people do not like or do not trust direct sales, and prefer to see someone face to face. Clearly this market is sustainable enough for Swinton to keep going with it.

I tried to cancel a policy with Swinton. Instead they auto renewed it. When I claimed back the direct debit and cancelled the instruction they re-established it and took the money again. Eventually I had to get a county court judgement just for them to reply to me. The manager of the branch refused to refund any money and in the end I had to get a enforcement orde to send the bailiff in. What was a debt of just under £20 ended up costing Swinton over £150

All through the experience I was continually ignored by them . Letters went unanswered and when they did call I was spoken to as if I were a debtor unable to pay (ie like dirt) despite the fact I had a court judgement against them, which the branch (Crawley) had previously ignored.

They are cheap for a reason.

    Awful, awful firm.

Think I had motor breakdown cover added to my car insurance a few years back and only noticed on a renewal.
Do I have to dig all the details out to try and claim it back. I'm with the AA so didn't need it but not sure what paperwork I still have - if any.

  • Good afternoon, read the item at 13:05, called my local Swinton, recieved dedicated phone number, 01603 225039, answered half a dozen questions (carefully), result...at 15:14 a £74 cheque in the post.

I Called 01603 25039 without any paperwork whatsoever, they found my policy and offered me £74 refund. They do word questions very carefully so be careful how you answer.:j

Over 6 weeks before my renewal was due i was contacted by swinton (bearing in mind i'd been with them for 2 years prior) and after all the waffling on said to me can we go ahead and start the policy i said no i haven't even thought of looking at any quotes yet and the lady said we're doing you a one off good deal that will be cheaper than your renewal i said sorry no and still she said can i ask why not unbelievable.then i got 3 phone calls a day from them i answered the first one only which was head office this time asking the same stupiud question needless to say i went with esure out of spite and guess what i've just noticed they have put £30 on my premium for solicitors which i did not ask for just my no claims cover so looks like it's not just swinton.
  • I only bought from Swinton once a few years ago. I was then bombarded with phone calls offering 'special offers' for other insurance. I had to get annoyed and demand they stop calling me in the end. I still get text messages and mail from them. Very annoying company. I will not use them now no matter how cheap they are.

Has anyone else been successful? Think I'm going to look at my old paperwork I had with them as I'm sure I had insurance with them in 2010 , worth having a look!
