Why do the ONS have to make an excuse every time it goes up ? Can't they just admit this govt.'s economic policies are a shambles ? Probably not, I guess.
Certainly made my mind up to hold onto to my index linked bonds. As for the rest of my savings its becoming increasingly tempting to spend it or emigrate with it to a country with a competent govt.
Saving is becoming a mugs game.
Inflation figures came in below the BOE forecast so lower is good. ONS doesn't make up excuses, it's their job to say where the inflation comes from.0 -
I wonder what meat got reduced. Horsemeat? The price of meat certainly hasn't come down in our neck of the woods.
That is the way CPI works isn't it? I think they call it substitution, if beef increases in price, they assume you switch to horse meat. Then again you probably do, you were just not aware of it

Already am. Have given up work, bought a motorhome and touring Europe. They can't take it when I've spent it

If you live in a microwave oven and eat nothing but Android 'phones that it might actually have gone down!

Slightly off topic, but in countries which sell it openly, horse meat is dearer than beef if its gone through proper channels and been passed as fit for human consumption. If on the other hand its just some old nag thats never seen a vet and died in a field of who knows what....if beef increases in price, they assume you switch to horse meat.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

but have you moved to a country with a competent government? or is the advantage of a motorhome that you can drive to whichever country currently seems to have the most competent government?0 -

The most competent government at any given time of the week maybe."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

That can only mean that he's gone to Switzerland.Free the dunston one next time too.0 -
2.7% is actually pretty low by international standards. It will fall when interest rates rise.
We have more difficulty letting interest rates rise than many other countries because of the ridiculous British addition to buying property, even through 90%+ mortgages ... hence have prioritised growth over inflation.
Talking about "leaving the country" due to 2.7% inflation is pretty silly to be honest. Not a lot of places you could go to. It certainly isn't the government's fault.0 -

Not sure they didn't help the increases along by devaluing the pound. There have been successive increases that being compounded."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
