Has anybody here sold a domain name on ebay ?

Yes but an active website gives some indication of how useful that domain name will be.
Getting a .co domain because the .co.uk domain is taken was probably just a desperate measure that the OP now regrets.
shopinlondon.co.uk is still avalableThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I didn't say his domains were worth anything, just that the lack of a website makes no difference to whether or not he can sell them. Obviously if he had a successful website to go with the domain he could sell the website, but that was not the OPs question.Yes but an active website gives some indication of how useful that domain name will be.

I have a personal domain of my own which I just use for emails - no website to go with it, other than a page with the contact details on. The lack of a website doesn't stop random strangers offering me money for the domain name, because domains and websites are different entities.0 -
I realise that, but with a domain with an obvious business intention such as 'shops in london' as opposed to a personal domain there is some expectation from a buyer that it has potential which is normally evidenced by a populated website rather than a suspended hosting account. TBH looking at the OPs other 'shopsin' sites, they were a good idea when bought but never came to fruition
I agree about personal domains I have one for personal and one for my company, neither have websites because they are purely for email. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I think you are still confusing the value of a domain with the value of a website. There are thousands if not millions of parked domains looking for buyers with no websites. The owners are hoping to cash in on somebody else who wants to build a website and needs that domain.I realise that, but with a domain with an obvious business intention such as 'shops in london' as opposed to a personal domain there is some expectation from a buyer that it has potential which is normally evidenced by a populated website rather than a suspended hosting account. The hosting is totally irrelevant. Just look at sedo if you don't believe me.0 -
My initial comment still stands thenI think you are still confusing the value of a domain with the value of a website. .
The only way to make that worth more than a renewal fee is a very good bit of SEO (which needs a good website)Can't see it being worth much since there are quite a few other TLDs for shopsinlondon still available.
You just need to look at what is on sale on ebay. They are either complete websites OR a domain name that is catchy, short and meaningful, none of which apply here. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

To answer the OP, you can sell on eBay but don't expect it to sell.
I left two old ones of mine to expire into the mist of sponsored websites.0 -
Thank you for all the interesting comments.
I see this evening, my London site is no longer available. I cancelled the hosting, so it must have ended. Birmingham is still online, but that will close shortly too.
I'll list all my domains on a single site and upload the details as a sun domain on another hosted site.
If 8 get any offer I can take it, then if not, say after a few months I'll just try and sell them on Sedo or Acorndomains.
Now I'm off to shoot myself. I thought my idea a few years ago was good, I taught myself html, CSS and produced a few sites. Just a pity I am not and have never been a salesman.0
