Postage To Russia

One of my items ended up being bid on by someone in Russia. The item sold for £18. What would be the best way to post it, should I opt for normal airmail or would I better off with signed for airmail?
I know they suggest anything over £20 in the UK should be sent recorded unless it is jewellery or money etc. Are there any hard and fast rules for postage to Russia/Europe?
Thanks to all in advance who may be able to help.

Russia is a difficult one, many of us have it on our blocked list due to the Royal mail reporting issues with customs.
Lovely buyers, really polite and eager to spend money- but the stuff takes weeks , even months to arrive sometimes. On the community boards it is suggested that items sent by courier arrive quicker than RM items which get held.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hope it's ok to ask in this thread and not start a new one. I'm a after a quick advise- I'd like to send some chocs to a friend in Russia(a gift, not an ebay item), do I write the address in English or Russian? And presumably there won't be any sort of a tax for them to pay if it's a gift and worth less than £10? Thank you!0

I can't help with customs but I would put both the English and Russina versions of the address to help Russian postmen. Judging by others experiences it might be best to order online from a Russian company. Cheaper postage and more likely to arrive before the best before date of the chocolate.kiwi_fruit wrote: »Hope it's ok to ask in this thread and not start a new one. I've posted several items to Russia over the years. Always put the address in Russian first, and then English (a good Russian friend once told me!).
Given some knowledge of the post, I would send all items Registered Airmail, in fact my previous buyers / friends use to insist on it.0 -
Have sent items to Russia by both normal Air Mail and International Signed For. Airmail sticker and correctly filled in customs label. Written address in English. Never had a problem. Sent five or six parcels. Some small and one the max you can send airmail. Just warn them it might take a bit longer to clear their customs. They normally already know this.
Personally I would send normal air Mail as International Signed For is only tracked to the point it leaves the UK which seems a waste of money. As long as it is less the compensation limit obviously.0
