i would get in touch with the local vet surgery.
When my cat went missing, i phoned all the local vets, and someone had very kindly brought him in after finding him dead near the main road.
I was so grateful, as i was able to stroke him and say goodbye, as were my children.0 -
Does it look like it's old and worn out..... or mutilated for fun?0

Just rang a local vets. They told me to ring the non emergency police number. Looks a pretty young cat to me

If you can bear it, take him home and wrap him up in a sheet - leave him in a shed or garage overnight then take to the vets tomorrow to be scanned for a chip. If there is one they will contact the owner.
If not, take a description of the cat and ask the vet if they would mind storing the body in the freezer for a couple of days. Put up posters around the area you found him with a brief description and your phone number. Be prepared for a very sad phonecall from a worried owner. If nobody comes forward the vets will cremate the body along with any others from put-to-sleeps during that week.
Personally, if my cat was missing I would want to know he was found and treated with respect in this situation. It would be horrible but better than not knowing.0 -
I have contacted a rescue place who rescued my dog and they have put a notice on their fb page. Thanks for replies0

Most vets will accept the cat if you can get it to them, check for a chip, and then store it in the freezer for a few days in the hope its owner can be found If the body is not claimed then the vets the cremation services that the vets use will usually take a stray for free.DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS ANIMALS DIE. How very sad
Please do get someone out to collect the cat. In most cases, even if the animal is found to be dead, its a relief in so many ways to have a resolve when a loved pet has been missing. 0 -
Check your local councils website. My council will come out and collect dead animals.0

Please take him to the vet if you can.
When my penny went missing the person who found her left her in a box outside the vets after they had closed for the weekend we never did find out what happened to her and it still upsets me 5 years later.
The worst thing was when I rang the woman she told me she couldn't see why I was so upset after all it was only a cat
