Fund Charges - visibility

All but two of my funds are held on the Hargreaves Landsdown platform. Does anyone know how I can calculate the annual and ongoing charges for my funds?

  • Do you mean beyond what you get from the TER or OCF figures?

I suppose this would be a decent starting point. What value would I apply the TER againt?
  • The best way I think, would be to take the daily value of your holdings for the last year (exclude weekends and holidays). For each day calculate: (TER / number of trading days) x unit value. Total them all up and you have a rough estimate for the year.

It's always going to be imprecise because TER's vary and are updated infrequently, often once a year.

    Thanks.. appreciate your comments.
  • imho it's well nigh impossible to find out the total costs of a fund. a lot of charges aren't in the TER.

when you buy a washing machine it's easy to find out how much each machine uses in water and electricty etc. when you buy a car the fuel efficiency is well publicised. it seems ridiculous that the consumer cant compare charges for funds.
