ceiling plasterboarded around wardrobes

Hello,
It's time for me to tackle my bedroom now.
The ceiling used to be covered with polystyrene tiles and this was plaster boarded over, around wardrobes.
I'm going to take out the last wardrobe today and need to sort out the hole in the ceiling.
I don't want to rip all the plasterboard down because the plaster skim is in good condition.
To me it looks like I need to make the gap a little wider, so that there are two joists above that I can screw the new plasterboard into.... but I can't just put plasterboard up as it won't be the right thickness, as the rest of the plasterboard is put up over the ceiling tiles.
Any help would be much appreciated

When you have the joists exposed measure the thickness of the existing ceiling. You can get plasterboard in 9mm and 12.5 thickness. Work out which you need that is equal to or around 2mm less than the existing ceiling.
If equal fill the joint and decorate. If up to 2 mm less then it can be skimmed to level. If greater then pack out the joists to make up the difference. Doesn't matter too much what you use to pack out, cardboard, hardboard, plywood etc all depends on the depth of the step caused by the tiles.

The ceiling is skimmed, I wasn't planning on taking it down to expose the joists, just measure where the joists are from the loft above
The plasterboard is 12.5mm and then the tiles are approx 20mm

Still can't access the photos. Never mind.
You need to provide battens in the loft for fixing new p/board to. As per my previous post provide 20mm spacers and screw 12.5mm p/board to them and the battens you fixed in the loft for a flush fit to existing board and tiles. Loft battens need to be provided for all edges of new board. If a large gap additional battens between the joists for central support of new board.0 -
ok thank you
so i won't need to cut away any of the plasterboard that's there, just put some battens in the loft, one at each edge and maybe one going across the middle too. Then screw the spacers to the battens
thanks a lot0 -
they also make p/d in 15mm double board it would give you 30mm leaving 2.5mm for the plaster0
