Hi all, this is a thread to discuss the MSE blog:
How was your trip to Nashville? Er, I’m not going for a month
""How was your trip to Nashville, Tennessee?" WHAT?! That was my first thought, as I read the email from hotel booking firm Hotwire..."

Even if you couldn't return the lipstick, they should have at least let you have an alternative third item for free, no? You've already paid full price on two items in the buy-two-get-one-free deal, so they should let you have the third.
The fact you've then already paid full price for a lipstick you weren't that bothered about is even more reason why they should have the good grace to let you have the third free item.
I'd go down the customer services route and get some goodwill.0 -
I made that self same mistake - booking a hotel for the wrong month although it turned out to be a blessing. I was going with my girlfriend to the Benicassim music festival in Spain in 2009 which we had tickets for and I booked a hotel in the small town/village itself. I was surprised hotel rooms were available so snapped them up. Only when I got an email saying 'We hope you enjoyed your stay!' did I realise my mistake that had cost about £250 for the stay I didn't have.
We then considered camping at the festival, but decided that instead we would sell the tickets and still go to Valencia as a holiday. The festival tickets sold for an overall profit of around £400 which made up for the money I lost. On top of that, while in Valencia we discovered there were tornado-like conditions in Benicassim, causing the festival to end abruptly on one night, and then the festival to be cancelled the following day due to the weather and a fire breaking out. On top of this there were reports of huge outbreaks of sickness from festival goers, people having their tents blown away in the conditions, and having to wait around for flights that were days into the future.
Needless to say I have been constantly reminded to be careful when booking anything ever since, although I can always point to the awful time we would have had if I hadn't made such a huge mistake!0 -
Always always check your reciept before you leave the supermarket, for things like BOGOF not coming off, reduced items at original price, etc. I'd say 25% of the time I find a mistake (always in the shop's favour of course)0
